Associate in Theology Programs
Associate degrees in theology usually take about two years to complete and are offered by Christian colleges and community colleges. They are a great option for students looking to expand their theological horizons while preparing for a potential career in ministry, but who aren’t ready to commit to a four-year theology bachelor’s degree program. Coursework will involve foundational theology and ministry topics like biblical interpretation.
Graduates of associate-level theology programs have the option to transfer their credits into a four-year theology bachelor’s degree program, or begin their service career. The degree can be applied to a wide range of professional applications, including missionary work.

Bachelor’s in Theology Programs
Students with a passion for theology and a desire to serve should consider beginning with a bachelor’s in theology degree program. Four-year theology degrees typically require 120 credit hours, which prepare students for careers in ministry or further study in a graduate program. For example, graduates can continue their studies in a seminary, apply for a ministry position, or even pursue related work with nonprofits.
While there are some bachelor of science (BS) in theology degree programs, the vast majority of theology degrees are bachelor of arts (BA) programs. And because bachelor-level theology programs are widely available, you’ll find a diverse range of degree specializations: biblical studies, theology, pastoral ministry, youth ministry, and Christian education, to name a few.

Master’s in Theology Programs
Bachelor’s holders interested in strengthening their theological understandings or ministerial skills should consider pursuing a master’s degree in theology. Graduate theology degrees equip students to understand and apply Scripture at a deep level through advanced theological study, concepts, and discourses. Graduates of master’s-level theology programs may lead ministries, plant churches, or pursue terminal theology degrees such as a PhD in theology or a DMin (doctor of ministry).
